PREMIER CONSTRUCTION OF DES MOINES

Investing in a Sunroom

There are a number of reasons you may be considering adding more livable space to your home. You may feel like you’re running out of space, would like to add more value to your home, or would simply like a change of scenery (without selling your house). Whatever the reason, there are tons of uses for a new sunroom to get excited about.

Sunroom Ideas

There are plenty of ways to enjoy your sunroom that you may not have even thought of yet. With so many possibilities to consider, let’s look at a few of our favorite uses.

Add a Rec Room

Most people think about finished basements as the perfect spot for a recreation room. However, a sunroom is an excellent spot, too. By combining a rec room with a family room that’s bathed in natural light can bring people together to have fun. That’s the whole point of a family room!

Create a Home Office Sanctuary

Your home office shouldn’t be an afterthought. Instead of shoving a small desk into a tiny spare bedroom or converted closet, think about adding a space in your sunroom. Natural light has been shown to boost serotonin, making us happier. Several studies have also shown that by introducing natural light to an office, employees are more productive and less stressed. Why not create that same environment in your home with an office in your new sunroom?

Turn it into a Solarium

The difference between a sunroom and a solarium aren’t big. Technically, a solarium has a glass roof, whereas a sunroom does not. Still, the term “solarium” is used interchangeably with “sunroom” because of the amount of sunlight a sunroom lets into the home. This makes it the perfect spot for houseplants. When plants are added to a home, they create more oxygen, adds to the natural humidity of the house, and adds life to the space.

Enjoy the Seasons

In Iowa, we know how unpredictable weather can be. There are some days when the temperature is perfect, but it’s raining and days when it’s actually raining while the sun is out. For these moments, a sunroom is perfect. We have some beautiful winter days here, too, but we don’t want to hang out on the patio while wearing our winter coats and snowsuits. A custom sunroom addition can allow you and your family to enjoy nature without dealing with weather.

Brighten Your Home

The amount of natural light coming through the windows of your new sunroom can really brighten up your home. These rooms can be the perfect spot to curl up with a book, enjoy family time, meditate, or to simply relax.

Custom Sunrooms

Gone are the days of adding prefabricated sunrooms to your home with no thought for its architectural detail in mind. A sunroom should feel like it’s always been part of your home—as if it was included in the original blueprint. That’s why we make it a point to work with you to custom design the sunroom that will look best on your home. For instance, take a look at some of our favorite sunroom projects to date:

Sometimes a screened-in porch is the answer and we love those, too. This home in West Des Moines needed a little something extra. We designed this screened-in porch to be an inviting hang out zone for family and friends. The ceiling fans mean that even on a hot day, the porch is kept comfortable. Plus, the screens help keep insects out!
