At Premier Construction, our passion is creating custom living spaces for families to live happily ever after. But we don’t stop caring about how you’re using those spaces after we leave. We want to make sure you’re enjoying your homes to the fullest and that’s why this week, we’ll be focusing on spring cleaning and organization tips! Today, we’re focusing on how you can enjoy your living room more (even if you have kids).
First things first: don’t try to shove all furniture against walls. It’s easy to do in small spaces, but think about placing a table or entertainment center at an angle instead. This helps create a more visually appealing space. Also, if you have furniture pieces right up next to each other (a chair against a sofa against a table against a lamp), stop that now! Choose the necessary pieces and remove the rest. Cramming bulky pieces together makes the room feel smaller and it’s simply harder to keep clean.
No one likes losing remotes and multiple remotes are unsightly. Instead, invest in a stylish box. Remote organizers can be found pretty much everywhere, but they’re almost never cute. Instead, head to your local craft or antique store and start looking at storage containers that would add to the aesthetic of your room—not something that you’d have to camouflage.
If you have kids, you know clutter is inevitable and there’s only so much you can do to fight it. Stop the madness by designating a spot (ideally a decorative basket or chest) for personal items like blankets, the random toy, a notebook, etc. to be hidden in case you have surprise visitors. This way, you’re not running around the house trying to toss items in their different rooms. Just be sure to schedule a weekly or monthly clean-out of that spot.
It can be easy to stuff all of your books onto a bookshelf. Instead, play around with the space. A great bookshelf is functional and stylish. Make sure your bookshelf plays host to books, frames, vases, and more, but keep it simple. Place some books standing up stack others to create different lines. You can also use a stack of books as a way to create a different height to display a cute tchotchke. While you arrange, step back to fully assess to ensure you’re achieving balance in your bookcase.
If your living room simply isn’t big enough, you may think about adding a sunroom to your home or finishing your basement. Give Premier Construction a call today and we can talk about how we can make your home work for your family.
