As we head into the second month of 2018, we’re already seeing home design trends emerge. Something we always enjoy seeing at Premier Construction is the homeowner’s style emerge once we’ve completed their custom room addition, finished basement, or even entire house. So far, here are some design trends for Iowans to watch in 2018:
With so many interior design shows, blogs, and Instagram feeds, it’s no wonder that a home can undergo several style changes in any given year. By introducing flexible design elements, such as seating with storage built in or tables on wheels, you can quickly and easily change the look of any room in just a few minutes.
Crushed velvet is making a big comeback right now and we’re excited to see it happen! For a while, it was “style over comfort.” It doesn’t have to be that way! Comfort and style are merging more successfully with sofas and chairs that are both chic and soft.
Not long ago, we were tearing bronze fixtures out of homes, but now people want us to put them back! When done properly, introducing different metals (bronze pulls on kitchen drawers and stainless steel appliances) can lend a modern and refreshed look to your home. In short, if it looks good to you, don’t be afraid to mix it up!
Whether you’re expecting your first baby or have a house full of kids already, you may be thinking about the decor of their bedrooms. Something to keep in mind when designing the space: your child’s room doesn’t need to look like it’s about to host a small circus. By keeping a nursery sophisticated, you can more easily slide the crib out and a child’s bed in when the time comes. Pastels are still big when it comes to kids’ rooms (and any other room), so don’t be afraid to utilize more traditional kids’ colors. Have fun by introducing patterns and textures to the room with wallpaper, bedding, wall treatments, and furniture. Don’t be afraid of hanging a chandelier in your daughter’s bedroom!
We’re seeing a lot of the “greenhouse-inspired interiors” and we’re excited about it! You can freshen up any room by introducing plants. From a table full of a small assortment of succulents to a large potted tree, using plants as decor helps brighten up your home quickly. Spend an afternoon at your local antique shop—you’re sure to find a beautiful vintage plant stand that can add just the right amount of elegance to your design.
